Our staff and board are a wealth of knowledge on transportation policy and
innovative solutions. The importance of sharing this knowledge, as well as
spreading the word about our organization and mission and how citizens
can help, make education a key part of our work.
Education efforts include sponsoring and co-sponsoring educational and
candidate forums, as well as participating as panel members in educational
and debate forums. We provide information tables at local events like
street fairs to reach out to and educate the public. Staff members also
make presentations to interested groups and individuals around the state.
Through these efforts hundreds of people have learned about issues like:
the value of transportation choices; how transportation decisions are made
and how the process can be improved; advantages and disadvantages of
current proposals; connections between land use and
transportation and how better land use can strengthen communities;
environmental and global warming impacts of automobile dependency.
Additional educational efforts include co-sponsoring Meet Your Legislator
meetings between decision makers and citizens outside of the legislative
session, training on writing letters to the editor and comments
to officials, citizen lobbyist trainings and ongoing advice and support, and background preparation for citizens interested in
testifying at hearings, among many other services.
Finally, our newsletter "Moving Ahead" (which goes to members), website, and email
Action Alerts network all aim to educate our supporters on current transportation issues. You

a variety of transportation topics. More about Friday Forums.
